Hi!!
Cant install the Nvidia graphics driver in my fedroa5 installation. I believe the problem is that my kernel was compiled with the wrong version of gcc, however im a newbe to Linux so Im not so sure what gcc is, nor do I know what commands to use to get it right. Anyway heres the error message that the installation program wrote:
ERROR: Unable to load the kernel module 'nvidia.ko'. This happens most
frequently when this kernel module was built against the wrong or
improperly configured kernel sources, with a version of gcc that differs
from the one used to build the target kernel, or if a driver such as
rivafb/nvidiafb is present and prevents the NVIDIA kernel module from
obtaining ownership of the NVIDIA graphics device(s).
Please see the log entries 'Kernel module load error' and 'Kernel
messages' at the end of the file '/var/log/nvidia-installer.log' for
more information.matte85

u can check gcc version by entering
gcc -v
on command line, also enter
uname -r
to see what version your kernel is. you will then be able to research if your gcc is correct for your kernel. If you have the rivafb or nvidiafb (framebuffer) modules loading or compiled into the kernel, the error message also addresses that. I have an Nvidia card and use the vesafb framebuffer device.Search Engines Are Your Friends ☺
