My SuSE 8.0 distro informed me that I needed to download the official nVidia Driver and GLX Driver File from the nVidia site (http://www.nvidia.com/view.asp?PAGE=linux) if I wanted 3D Hardware support - which is what I did. But after doing so, booting up Linux only got as far as a text login screen - not the GUI login screen that I'm use to. I have a Geforce 4 mx440 Ti4200. I had to reinstall the original drivers from the SuSE CD, which prevented me from playing the games that I originally intended to. Any suggestions on solving this problem?

Did you download and compile the sources?

I used the RPM packages specifically for SuSE 8.0.

Try downloading the source RPMs, then rpm --rebuild ./*.rpm if they are both in the current directory. This will compile and create a couple more RPMs in /usr/src/packages/RPMS (or there abouts, check the last few lines of the output from the previous command for the exact location) which should be configured for your system. You can then try to install these ones instead. I take it that you did read the install instructions and altered your XF86Config-4 file etc.....good luck.
