nVidia driver install problem

Hi. I have encountered a problem when trying to install the nVidia_kernel_something.something.rpm (runlevel 3). When I run rpm -ivh nvidia_kernel, it gives me this error:
error: unpacking of archive failed on file /lib/modules/2.4.18-6mdk/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver; 3da74e5b: cpio: read
What does that mean? If it's something horribly simple then please don't be mad, because I am still a newbie. Thanks in advance!

I don't think you can run the files just like that. Since the RPMs haven't been made by Nvidia for MD 9.0 and RH 8.0 you have to build the drivers.
you start off with the command: rpm -i NVIDIA* etc...
I think that the procedure for Mandrake should be similar to Redhat. Here's a link that describes how to do it for Red Hat 8.0 (I just did this the other night and it worked perfectly!):
