Does anyone know of a way to use a NTFS partition seemlessly with linux e.g. just like a FAT32 partition.

Just mount it as NTFS! type something like this:
# mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/nt40 -t ntfs
or with "linuxconf" set the mounttab as "automatic" or "ntfs". This is the better way if you use the automount daemon. If you are not sure about the parameters of "mount" read the man page typing:
$ man mount
