OS: Mandrake 10.0 CE
CPU/Ram: Celeron 1.7ghz, 384mb
Comment:

I just downloaded Mandrake 10.0 CE, (and GOOD LORD! ITS THE FASTEST OS I'VE EVER USED! 100X FASTER THAN WINDOWS XP PRO!) and it came with ALSA 1.0.2c, well sound was choppy, so I downloaded, compiled and installed latest stable version of ALSA. But now there is no sound and I get some kind of error about no soundcards on default but sound server will continue to run. PLEASE HELP ME!

BTW
i installed the driver, lib and utilites, any others that would be a good idea?

Everything is always funny at first, until someone gets hurt, and then it's just hilarious!

Theres no reason for you to upgrade alsa. Mandrake 10 comes with Linux 2.6* and that already has a pretty stable version of alsa.

Please describe "choppy sound". The "PCM" volume in the mixer should not be greater than 70%, try experimenting with it.
Also, what program are you using to test your sound? (music player etc).

Mandrake 10 might be a bit faster on desktop PCs because of the "preempt-enabled" Linux 2.6.

There are 10 kinds of people, those who count in binary and those who don't.
