no sound on linux

OS: xp/mandrake8.2
CPU/Ram: 1.7ghz

i have installed Mandrake8.2 on my compaqs 6125AI.everything is ok but the sound is not coming.sound card is SOUNDMAX.ihave already check compaqs website but result is nothing.
what should i do?where i can find the driver
of sound for MANDRAKE8.2?????????????????

By default, the volume is NOT turned up.

If you're using KDE, use Control Panel access system settings/sound and slide up the volume controls.

My ALS4000 worked fine after that. I was never able to get it working in Red Hat using the convoluted ALSA drivers.
