CPU/Ram: 1.66 athlon xp

Hi, i've got some problems with my sound card on linux redhat 8.0 , there is no sound when i played my music, linux detects the card, but the sound properties are blocked in XP everything is cool!. My card is Direct Sound AC97 Audio , KT133A, AMD ATHLON XP 2000+

which kernel are u using?
i remember having problems with that chip up to 2.4.18
do u have the ac97 module loaded? what does
cat /dev/dsp
say?
