I can listen to music using XMMS. When I play CDs, the CD player shows that the CD is playing, but I don't get any sound? What is wrong and how can I fix it? Thanks!!!

check if theres a wire running from your cdrom to your sound card. I know you are able to play cds in windows but due to the technical differences in linux you need something directly taking sound from cdrom to soundcard (which is good coz cpu isn't used and sound quality is better)
