No route to host

I have computers one has win xp pro the other linux debian 3.0 both connected through a switch , I telnet back and forth no prob's till I installed a modem on the linux box, now I can't communicate either way when i try the linux box says somthing like " unable to connect to remote host: No route to host" cards on both machines are fine, address's are good as well as subnet address's I can telnet 127.0.0.1 on both computers. please can some one help me out. will be much greatful cheers :-)

hi, have you try to see how are the routes in the route table? use netstat -r and if you are using the net 192.168.2.0 for example, it will return something like this:
