Hi,

I am new to Linux, and need some help here. I installed RH7.1 from the CDs coming with book "Red Hat Linux Bible". When I was trying to configure my Ethernet cards, I found the following problems:

1.When click "Linuxconf" icon in X window KDE, it shows "Linxcconf is not installed".
2.When issuing "ifcogi" as root, it says "no such a command"
3.I configured the network interface as DHCP, since I have Comcast cable service. By "dmesg | grep eth", I figured that the ethernet cards can be detected. However when boot, or activate with "netcfg", both cards are failed, with message of " Determing IP information for ethx..... operation failed".
4. When test with "which dhcpcd", there is no dhcpcd found.

Could anyone tell me that, in my situation, whether Linxconf and DHCP are really not installed, or I missed something to get it up and running. "Red Hat Linux Bible" gives me impression that they are supposed to be included. And also, why " ifcogi" doesn't work?

Thanks a lot for the help

It is me again. There is a typo in my orignal message:

When issuing "ifcofig" (not "ifcogi"), it gives "no such a command".

Why?

Thanks

You have another typo from your typo
correction i think, haha. What you need to
type is /sbin/ifconfig, not ifcofig. For a
full explanation, please refer to my post

it should provide you with enough
information to get things up and running.
Good luck.

As for Linuxconf, Redhat no longer installs it. I think it still included on one of the CDs, though.
