So I'm putting together a small NAS for my home network and I was wondering which is faster: NFS or Samba? The network has only Ubuntu and Apple machines all connected to a gigabit switch (all Cat 5e or better) and wireless clients. Will there be any difference? Is there a major disadvantage for either? Thanks.

Oh and specs for the NAS are above. And 2 250GB SATA drives in RAID 1.

If you have no windoze machines on the network then go for NFS.
