I installed Linux for Windows on my laptop with great success. I then tried to install it on my pc and upon completion instead of the GUI I'm used to, I'm stuck at a DOS equivalnt of localhost login: screen. How do I start KDE or move around. On the laptop I type in a Log-in name and then go directly to KDE login and password and poof I'm in.

If the xserver has already been installed then change the default init level to 5 in the /etc/inittab file.you probably have 3 there as the default which boots to command line interface.
