I have been using Linux for 6 days now. As far as modems go I know that there are few winmodems(softmodems) that will work in Linux. A good hardware modem will . I am using a USR 5610B internal PCI performance pro hard modem it works real good. It will cost you 80$ at any staples office depot best buy I even saw one at walmart. Winmodems suck in Windoz. I believe that most hardmodems will work in Linux. You may be able to pick one up used at a locale PC shop. Look on the web for your modem and see if it is a hard or soft modem if it is hard it will probably work. I am running RedHat 7.3
Good Luck
