New soundcard, no Linux

I've got Mandrake 9.0 on dual boot with Win XP and since I installed a new soundcard, ATI Radeon 9000, 128MB, Linux wont boot. Windows works fine but it seems that Linux has not recognized the card or I need to configure the card myself. How do I do that. I am a complete novice with Linux and now when I try to start Linux rather than getting KDE I get a few lines of text alien to me and it seems that I am supposed to do something but what? How do I get my new soundcard to work with Linux? Please help. Thanks a lot.

To configure the card under mandrake: # XFdrake

umm... Yeah, but you have to login as root first ;-) where it says "localhost login" or "yourhost login", enter "root", press return, then enter your root password, press return, then type XFdrake on the bash prompt.
