Hi, I just wanted to ask if it is possible to make my 3com 3C509b network card work under Linux. I have disabled Plug N Play and I have loaded the module (doesn't stay loaded during reboot), but it still doesn't work. Can someone please help.

Doesnt have to load anything!! put the NIC in the slot, and start the computer... that's it!!

3C509b is fully supported at least since RH6.0

The NIC was allready installed for win98.
When I installed Linux Red Hat 7.0 (dual boot system)it didn't detect anything. I then tried to detect it manually with Kudzu but that didn't help. It is a ISA card. You don't suppose it is easier to install a PCI card?
Thanks for your quick reply

Hi,

to make a module load on startup edit the
"/etc/modules" file and add "3c509b" but
"modconf" will do this for you.
Use modconf to install the module, but you
will have to add the IRQ and IO-Port in
this process (modconf will prompt for it, ISA
cards mostly don#t without this infos).
Try "lsmod" to see if the module has really
been loaded.
Good luck,
Solo
