G'day
Im a relative newbee to the linux world.
I have a rather annoying problem with transfer rates (only get about 5Kb/sec) into and through my linux gateway ... here's the setup;The System is a Pentium 200 with 256Mb RAM, and dual booting with winXP/win2k.
Linux version = Mandrake 8.1Network Config;
eth0 = Internet adaptor
eth0 model = RTL-8029(as)
eth0 module = ne2k-pcieth1 = Internal adaptor
eth1 model = SMC2-1211TX
eth1 module = rtl18139I use MonMotha's IPTables Firewall script for NAT, have no prob with tranfer speed using eth1 (internal), but eth0 (Internet) is a problem, as i get a GREAT transfer speed (up to 600KB/sec) through the same box using Win2k/WinXP, but only get around 5KB/s (sometimes WAY less)
Also, the tranfer rates to the linux box (in both the shell, and X-Windows, is slow (X-windows is definately around 5KB/s - not positive about the shell).I am thinking it may be a NIC driver problem, but would like to figure it out rather than just slot in a new one.
any help much appreciated
JD

I solved the problem by changing the RTL-8029(as) (eth0) with a new nic-card, and now it works like a gem!
I think it was a nic driver problem (or problem with the nic itself (but the nic worked fine in win2k ...)
thanks anyway
JD
