hello,
I am new to linux. I have PIV intel 845G chipset monther board with VGA and network card. The Redhat linux 7.2 not detecting both the cards. I change driver to vesa, so i can see graphics.
My networkcard is not installed. i am able to ping the Linux server from my windows machines but i couldn't access thro telnet.
since no network card installed the ifconfig is not showing anything.
I couldn't find any driver and I don't know what type of network card in intel 845 G montherboard have?
Please help me.
Thank you
Sakthi.

doesn't sound like it's NIC problem, see if your linux has telnet service on when u start the system

I have the same problem. Xconfigurator (Red Hat Linux 7.3) will not recognize this onboard video chipset. I can't find any reference to it in the XFree86 site. If anyone has any info on new drivers, I would appreciate it. Thanks...

Hello,
I too facing the problem with intel 845. It have searched the Intel Site also..
-In case of telnet, just do the following.
in /etc/xinet.d/telnet comment disable = yes line.
and /etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart...
telnet should work..
-Now about X11 drivers... video card drivers.. It has go Intel 8284G/GL Graphics Controller..
I could not get the drivers from Inel Site or At XFree site.
Following site gives little help..but it is not really useful..
http://support.intel.com/support/graphics/intel845g/linux.htm
If any of you get success..please do let me know at lifeboy_plus@yahoo.com
Thanks,

hai,
I have PIV intel 845GL Motherboard with VGA card and Soundcard. I install Redhat Linux 7.2. but Redhat linux 7.2 not detecting the cards. Now I am working with Redhat in Text Mode.
XConfigurator is not working properly. Please help me How to configure in VGA display and Soundcard.

Now here we go... I searched for days and finally found out some stuff about the combination. Not sure if it helps, but still worth a try.
+++ Network Card:
the problem seems to be that the main board has an APIC (Advanced Programable Interrupt Controller), which is of course not supported in the 7.2 red hat kernel.
You have to download the newest version of the kernel sources and recompile it and dadaaa... APIC support is added. I have downloaded 2.4.19 and it works fine.
Go to www.kernel.org and read the kernel HOWTO and download the sources.+++ 845G
The Extreme Graphics chipset is a whole different can of worms!
I haven't had the energy yet to get it work. The current Red Hat distribution does not support it. But hang on..! red hat 8.0 just came out... maybe it does (see below for version info on XFree).
The workaround Intel proposes (vesa driver) does not work, either.
Apparently, there is a 2.4.19-rc1 kernel that supports it. Again www.kernel.org for download. Also, version 4.2.99.2 of XFree seems to have the driver inbuilt. This seem to be the hotter lead.
Bottomline is: Don't try to run Linux on an EVO workstation (or anything similar with this particular Intel chipset), unless you are prepared to do some serious work with kernel compilation and version patching.
Have fun :-)
I am hunting now for the a.m. XFree version and see if I can get it to run. It's not as if I had something elsse to do in my life!!! LOL
Chris
