network config problem

Comment:
i've got two pcs with ethernet cards, connected by a crossover cable running both with win2k the connection works fine but if the one with the "Allied Telesyn AT-2000U" ethernet card runs with Linux it's not able to find the other pc's ip regardless which os is running on the other pc the command "ping localhost" works find also, the command "ping 127.0.0.1" as well as "ping "
So it can ping localhost? ISA cards are notorious for being a pain in the butt. Look at what resourses the card in the linux machine is using under windows and set it up manually using those specs under linux. Linux doesn't always config ISA right. ISA is not PnP like PCI. You're life might be easier if you go out and buy a cheap linksys or netgear card that you can get for $5-10 at a local store. The bios and linux "should" be able to detect and auto config that automatically (depending on kernel and BIOS version)
