OK, I need help, how do I install my 3Com 3C509B (ISA) network card on Linux?

I am a complete beginner and I can't figure out how to install it.

I am running Gnome & AnotherLevel desktops.

don't despair, man!
i am an absolute beginner at netwoking; i have also an isa network card, which i have been unable to setup for 72 hours now and have almost gotten mad; i have posted a question named 'ethernet setup', so you might wanna check it out should some networking wiz gratefully replies...
