Hi!!! I've got troubles with network and modem in Mandrake 9.0. First I've got to say I had had Mandrake 8.2 before. There were no troubles there. I've got software Conexant modem: hex 2 56l. I took the newest drivers from their site. And it worked for some time till I tried to make connetion via network adapters between my two computers. Actually, problems with modem started when I used graphical network configuring tool in Mandrake Center. I just went through configuration of network card and that was enough for modem to stop working. It's not a fault of modules. I can make connection but I can't use any program: browser or something. Looking into connection properties in KPPP I've got straight blue line of death of transfer. Modem, however seems to be connected (all sounds are OK and those squibbles appear in a moment of connection). So, in other words, I can make connection without ability to use it. I also've got two computers and want to make them work with each other via network cable in Linux. My cards are GF100TXR IV. And now the funniest thing. I've got XP on one computer and 98 on another. No problems there. I've got file sharing and everything is all right. So it is not the hardware problem. When I change to Linux I can't even ping. Every computer sees only itself. I suspect that these devices don't like each other problems with network cards must be connnected somehow with modem ( modules or something else). I've had such modem problems before. And when I #-ed 8139too in modules.conf then modem worked. When I restarted computer modem worked fine and I could use internet. Then I removed # and restarted again. It was still OK. It worked till the moment of network configuration as I wrote before. Now nothing's working. I don't feel like installing system from the scratch. I could make modem work by doing it. But there is still question of network cable connection. There is freshly installed Linux on one computer and I tried to ping it to Windows XP and it didn't work. So far Windows is better than Linux. It seems as though Linux could control these two devices but in Windows it's, as they say, a few clicks away. But I'm determined to make network work in Mandrake too. So, please, help!!!

don't feel bad, i just installed mdk 9.1 and can't get my internet connnection going. modem is a linux modem but can't get ppp0 going with an error 2 using mcc from the console. if you know a fix please let me know. i know this is no help for your problem but i just installed mdk and their site seems to be of no use unless you pay. these european linux distros suck in my experience so far. have redhat 8 on my other pc, works like a charm don't know why i bother with these crappy distros. if you can help post here or use my e-mail, thanks.
