I have a few install questions:

What is autoconf 2.53 and how can I check to see if it's installed?

What is autogen.sh? I need to run this as well and need autoconf 2.53 to do so.

Do I need vendor drivers to get my NIC card to work on FreeBSD? I set the ip address with /stand/sysinstall but can't ping other pcs on my lan. Loopback pings work @100%.

Any guidance that can be provided would be greatly appreciated. I have a good unix basics book but my current needs go beyond this book.

Thanks!

I already answered part of these questions. I found autoconf 5.4.2.tar.gz which probably just needs to be unzipped/untarred....what a concept!

I'm still puzzled by the ip situation though.

Well just install the drivers for your NIC. If the NIC is popular there will be a driver readily available even if it isn't supported by the vendor.
