I have tried everything, but I cannot seem to get Internet to work on Linux...here it my set up

Host PC: Windows 98 SE, running Virtual PC 5.1 (with shared networking option ON), HOST physically connected to D-LINK DI-604 router, connected physically to cable modem

Guest PC: Mandrake 9.2 RC1, I have tried Mandrake 8.2, Mandrake 9.1, and Damn small linux,

I am told from Virtual PC folks that with that shared networking option ON, just set linux to accept DHCP and internet will work...well, it doesn't...I know my linux uses ISC DHCP-client and server, and I have tried the DHCPCD that came with Mandrake 9.1 to no avail

I can access my router page from Mozilla just fine (http://192.168.0.1)...everything else attempts to resolve host but later says nothing can be found

PLEASE HELP...I really want internet access though my linux set up on Virtual PC...thanks!!

I don't think you want the Mandrake DHCP
server running, otherwise it will pick up
an IP from that and not the Virtual PC
software.

If you can access the router fine, perhaps
you just need to set up your gateway on the
linux box:
# route add -net default gw 192.168.0.1
netmask 0.0.0.0 metric 1

You should now at least be able to ping an
IP on the internet. Try pinging google:
$ ping 216.239.37.99
