hi,
i tried to install the ati proprietary drivers for mandrake 10.1 with the asus (ati) radeon 9550 video card, and my monitor is NEC MultiSync FE700.

now the question is, would it mess up my whole computer if the monitor specs are entered incorrectly?

becuase i've tried installing it once and i couldn't find the vertical scan rate i think and entered vertical sync range instead or something like that, and messed up everything, no display on boot. so i had to format.

i'm willing to give it a try once again with the ati rpm drivers, but i need to exact monitor specifications and i can't seem to find anything other than horizontal/vertical sync rate and just the horizontal scan range

anyways all i have is:

Key Features
Monitor Type CRT Conventional

Size 17 in.

Max. Resolution 1280 x 1024

Dot Pitch 0.25 mm

Viewable Picture Size 16 in.
Convenience Features
Form Factor Desktop

Synchronization Range - Vertical 55 - 120 Hz

Synchronization Range - Horizontal 31 - 70 kHz

anyone can help would be appreciated
thanks

Post up your /etc/X11/xorg.conf

You should be able to select a generic monitor type, what error are you getting when trying to run X?
