Hello everybody. . Below is my computer's configuration:
Primary harddisk-40GB
100% WinXP-Ntfs -

Secondary harddisk-also 40GB
primary partition-50% Win98SE-Fat32
extended parition-50% Redhat V8.0-ext3
100mb-boot partition
245mb-swap partition
other space I make it full for root

I didn't set any linux.bootloader (lilo/grub) for my 2nd harddisk. Because the Win98SE must set its bootloader in MBR (i think) otherwise it won't let me install it. So everytime I want access to my linux I use the linux bootdisk.

Question: I would like to use winxp bootloader to boot 3 OS of my computer, how? But if you advise to use linux bootloader, I saw some thread said it would be a latency to boot. It will go to linux bootloader to chose which OS want to boot. If WinXP, it will go to WinXP bootloader to chose again.

Some advise likes type # dd if=/dev/hdb1 bs=512 count=1 of=/mnt/floppy/bootsect.lin
to create dummy boot sector....How? Is linux got somethings like window's msdos prompt can type above command?

then
Add command to the boot.ini:
c:\bootsect.lin="Linux RedHat 7.2"

eg:
[boot loader]
timeout=30
default=multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS
[operating systems]
multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Professional" /fastdetect
c:\bootsect.lin="Linux RedHat 7.2"

Now copy the bootsect.lin to c:\ and you are done .. you can now use the NT boot loader to start.

.....
was it also works in Linux redhat 8.0? I already set win98se at primary partition then extended partition for linux. Should i also type "c:\bootsect.lin="Linux RedHat 8.0""? Do I need use same way for win98se "c:\bootsect.lin="Win98se""? How to boot win98se?

I heard somethings call "vfat mount point partition" that let us to share files between windows and Linux, is that true? how? If i forget create some partition likes "vfat mount point partition", do i need remove all linux partition and format it to let me make a clean partitions again from start?

I heard some special partition created for program files, user data files.......Was it all needed? Why linux can't just like Windows partition can store all files (programs files, user data files) in a single partition? Beside than swap partition (virtual ram), boot partition (space for lilo/ grub?) what others partition do I need to create?

Your instructions for making the Windows XP are basically correct, except you have one major problem: your linux boot partition is in an extended partition. In order for the linux bootloader to operate correctly, your boot partition must be in the first 1024 cylinders of the hard drive (due to BIOS hard drive access limitations). Under your current configuration, I'm afraid you're going to have to simply use a disk.

So how about if I reset the linux boot loader on 1st partition sector in rescue mode? I can't install win98 on extended partition ( i forget the error message or may be I set the linux boot loader on mbr...I didn't remember)

......I think my question too long so I dicided to make it simple:
Below is my computer specification:
hda1 40GB=>WinXP Pro 100% NTFS

hdb1 20GB=>Win98SE 50% Fat32=>primary partition

hdb2 20GB=>Redhat Pro 50%=>logical partition
100MB /boot ext3
256MB swap
Others /root ext3

Now WinXP Pro can boot in normal.
Boot to Win98SE, BIOS need to change to let hdb boot 1st.
Boot to Redhat Pro I use boot floppy.

I want use WinXP NTFS loader. How to modify the Boot.ini? Ways create "bootsect.lnx" file I've tryed before however computer just stop but doesn't hang (Num lock still can on/off & able restart by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del). How to know which linux boot loader I've use (for hdb)or I didn't installed? and knows where (MBR/1st sector)?
