Hey,

I have a network with a NT4 PDC and a Proxy Server also running NT4. IE5 works fine with the proxy server on all of the servers. Lately we decided to add in some linux workstations, we have the network up and running but can't seem to get netscape to work with the proxy server. We set it up in Netscape's configuration under Advanced, Proxies, setting up the webproxy and ports, etc. We checked that the ports and everything is correct, but we can't seem to get it working. I tried lynx aswell, editing /etc/lynx.cfg and setting up the web proxy etc. but nothing there either. I realize ftp, telnet and other linux tools might not work without something like SOCKS. But shouldn't Netscape work. I'm thinking that maybe the problem lies with our Proxy server, but I can't find anything. Any help with be appreciated.

i have NT Server 4 with proxy and linux clients running netscape perfectly. i would say it must be the security settings on the proxy server.

Did you get email to work through MSProxy without the proxy client? We had to go to a router to make it happen.

This works for me.

- in MS Proxy under Properties for Default Web Site choose Directory Stucture
- edit Anonymous Access & Authentication Control
- select only Basic Authentication and edit
- enter Domain Name and then close out of MS Proxy

- in NT User Manager For Domains select Policies and User Rights
- choose Log On Locally and Grant to all users who will be accessing the Internet
- set up browsers to manually configure proxy settings

Downside to this is users will have to authenticate when they launch their web browser, just use network id and password.
