Hello!
I have a little problem- I want to play divx
files on my Slackware machine. I downloaded
mplayer and tried to install it (configure
+gui, make, make install), downloaded a skin,
made a soft link to whatever, ran gmplayer...
it runs ok. When I try to play a film,
however, it exits with some error that it
could not initialise codec (I forgot to say
that I downloaded the divx codecs and
installed them, then I compiled, I believe it
had no error messages upon cobfigure). Well,
I am a little lost about what other codecs I
need and where to find them (win32? what
else?). I tried to install xmps but it exits
with an error. I actually installed aviplay
and managed to get it working, but it drops
frames (despite my output, which is about 140
Megs/s thanks to the new video card drivers I
downloaded) and I don't know how to play
films full screen. Can someone give me good
advice please? I seem to be a little lost...

mplayer is awesome. Go to their web site and follow the directions to install the Windows codecs (http://www.mplayerhq.hu/homepage/dload.html). You then need to reconfigure, rebuild, and reinstall mplayer.
