Comment:

I have Red Hat Linux 8 with the standard grapgical interface. The mose works fine but it doesn't have the midle button working correctly. In windows I could scroll up/down with it but in Linux it can only cut/past.
Is there any solution tro get this midle "button" to scroll up/down again?

found this somewhere just yesterday (cant remember, maybe a howto?)

edit the /etc/X11/XF86Config (Backup it up of course...)

scoll down till you find the mouse section and add
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"

so mine looks like this...

*snip*

Identifier "Mouse1"
Driver "mouse"
Option "Protocol" "IMPS/2"
Option "Device" "/dev/psaux"# When using XQUEUE, comment out the above two lines, and uncomment
Option "Buttons" "5"
Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
EndSection

open a shell
you will have to be root to do this
type setup
on the menu choose mouse configuration
then select Microsoft IntelliMouse (PS/2)
if you ps/2 mouse
this will select a new driver for you mouse
then select ok
you may have restart kde or gnome
this worked for using a hp mouse
with scroll

Check your /etc/X11/XF86Config(-4) file, make sure that:

1) YOU HAVE BACKED IT UP FIRST BEFORE EDITING IT!

2) The protocol is IMPS/2 (not just PS/2)

3) The ZAxisMapping 4 5 line is in there (as stated above)

4) Disable Emulate3Buttons (comment it out or set it to "no" or "false")

Restart your X server and hope for the best!=o)
