I am installing Monkey Linux, the machine I am installing on a intel 486, 20megs ram, 400 mb hardrive,.....my problem is i booted with a win 98se disc, and when I try to extract the floppies to a directory I made D:\LINUX, it gives me a bad file or command message.....the install instructions said extract to LINUX directory:
Installation:
Make a directory called LINUX in the root directory.
Whole Linux operating system will be placed into this directory.
Extract all files mlinuxNN.a?? to this directory (NN is a version):
arj x -v -y mlinuxNN C:\LINUX
Enter to the directory LINUX.
If you install to another drive than C:, please check LINUX.BAT.
Type LINUX.BAT, cross you fingers....
...
Uninstallation: Simply remove directory C:\LINUX (ie: DELTREE /y C:\LINUX)
I being a windows user, am a little mixed up or don't understand what the ARJ x -v -y mlinuxNN is. It this the extract command or where can I find commands under linux..Sorry to be so new at this but I am a little confused.....any help would be appreciated....
Thanks in advance
BN

arj is a DOS archiver, like pkzip. the x -v -y are just command line switches. You can download arj archiver and find out from its comprehensive help, if you track it down using Google or something.
I don't think there's an arj for Linux - Linux tends to use gunzip/bunzip and tar.

Brent,
Assuming your installing from a floppy (A:\ drive) you'll issue this command to install Monkey Linux:
arj x -v -y A:\mlinux06 D:\LINUX
Since you're placing Monkey on your D:\ drive you'll have to edit D:\linux\linux.bat.
Specifically, the ROOT= part of the lineloadlin 3mide.030 root=/dev/hda1 rw
Monkey Linux will not boot until you input the correct partition that you're installing it on.
Check out http://projectdevolve.tripod.com for more information on Monkey. Good luck.
