i was installing linux on my XP machine and at the end of the install, after my system rebooted, i got a message saying "monitor out of range, are these settings correct?"
but it only shows up when i boot to linux. win XP runs fine. what do i do?

Sounds like is telling you "monitor frequency out of range".
If so, all you need to do is adjust your video card and monitor settings (hor, ver, frequency settings, etc)
(BTW: can't compare what happens in Windows with what or how it happens in Linux. With Windows, most is plug-and-pray; plug it and hope it only breaks once a day. With Linux, you have to intervene manually on some things, but, once is set up properly, it just plain works!)
Regards...

ok how do i adjust the frequency settings so that linux will run? cus right now i can't even get past the part where linux starts up and checks all the settings and either lables the (ok) or (failed).
my current frequency isH 30-54KHz
V 50-120Hz

You do not say what distro you are using, however, from your last post, I have to assume that you can not boot the box.
First make sure you have ALL the relevant information for your monitor and video card, or a way to research it as you are installing/fixing the Linux install.Try booting from the install CD or from a rescue floppy, or on failsafe. Then get to the area where you are setting up X or where you can tell the installation what monitor and video card you have. Then simply enter the detailed information.
