I have installed RedHat Linux 7.3 onto a PC.
Installation went fine. Problem is to do with modems.
The PC does not have a serial port. But I have a US Robotics External 56KB Voice/Fax Modem which as far as I can tell would work fine with Linux.
The PC does have USB Ports but from reading around I think it sounds like I'd be lucky to get a USB Modem to work with Linux.
So I was wandering, I know I can get a cable which would take the serial output from the Modem and allow me to plug it into the USB port. But then I've got all the USB hassles.
Can anyone tell me if this is a pointless exercise, trying to get Linux to recognise a Serial Modem via a USB Port?
If so, has anyone any suggestions about which model of USB Modem would work with RH 7.3? I know I could look on the Hardware Compatability List, but I just thought I'd ask while I'm here.
Thanks
Jim

Well i have something to share with you, don know if it will be much of a help to you...
When I was using Time Warner Cable, i was ruuning internet via USB cable on 7.2.... the cable modem was provided by the ISP (i think it was RCA's Digital Cable Modem)... and it worked fine for me.... so give it a try with a USB cable modem
