Modem Problems

When i try to connect to the internet it says 'cant initialize modem'. Ive told it the correct COM port but nothing would work. Also i dont have a internet provider number. If someone can send me that it would be great. Thanks

You most likely have a winmodem. Winmodem is an abreviation for Windows Modem, they are software modems, meaning they are missing the controller chip and that would be emulated by a piece of windows software.
Winmodems have the one benifit of being cheaper. But they VERY rarely work in any other OS, and can be slow.
your best bet is to go buy a Hardware Modem. They work in any OS and have the benifit of being faster than winmodems. But they cost more(around 100 US dollars for an external one).

Give more information. Which modem do you have( manufacture and model)? and which program have you used so far? Even if your modem is a winmodem, there are drivers for some of them to get them working.
