Subject: Modem not detected in LinuxOS: Damn Small LinuxCPU/Ram: Pentium 4/256 MbModel/Manufacturer: Toshiba Satellite 1905 |
Comment: Hi, I recently tried to get onto the Internet with Damn Small Linux, but my modem is not detected. When I create a connection with the PPP tool, it never automaticly detects my modem and when I click connect, it says the modem script failed. I downloaded another application from the website, but it scanned for a modem and said the modem was not detected. It did the same thing on another computer. Why is my modem not detected?

Reply: (edit)What kind of Modem is it? What model? What chip? Linux is not good with Winmodems. It is good with serial/parallel external modems, which are certainly not winmodems. It is not clear about USB external modems.

Reply: (edit)It is a built-in modem that I got with my laptop. A Toshiba Software Modem AMR. The desktop computer I tried it on was a Compaq with a PCI modem card, I think it is an Aopen modem. In Windows, the modems are on COM3
