Hello:
Mentor Graphic's ModelSim on Linux SuSe 7.3 does not work.
A very large number of Linux programs work on most Linux platform.
So far the saying is "we support only Read Hat Linux", but the Mentor Graphic's technical support team have been very active and told me they will do their best to fix this problem.
Most programs work on most versions of Linux, without a hitch. EG: Netscape, Koffice, OpenOffice etc....
But some do not, I guess because the install was hacked around only one version of Linux.
Because of its wide support, the rpm format may be the best way to distribute a software package?By the way: You may have heard of the unified linus initiative:
This is nothing new! The Unix vendors had exactly the same problem, and this did impede the success of Unix, a very good platform indeed.
In the mean time, when ther is a choice supporting by your purchase vendors which support most popular/standards versions of Linux, will make it happen.
Thanks.
Andre G-
