Is there a program for linux that lets me open and edit microsoft excel (.xls) files? I have some important files I need access to and Microsoft XP has been acting up lately. Every time I try to start excel it loads and then closes right away without an error message.

Staroffice from Sun will open any MS doc. Mine was free with Redhat - not sure if Sun is stilling giving free downloads. My XP is running it. Our IT guys keep staroffice on their field machines so they actually can open other office suite docs - far superior to MS-office and only 80mb in win form.
