What do you mean like in windows??

If you are talking about CTRL-ALT-DEL for task list then the GNOME prog is: gtop, otherwise kill from the command line

No i am talking about freeing physical memory, like in windows you can download any software utility from the net and it can free memory without restarting the puter. Anyway i think that in linux there isn't such a software.Thanks.

J, The reason windows has these programs is because the OS does not do this like it should. Linux on the other had correctly uses system resources. If you are working and use a large portion of your physical memory it will be reclaimed by linux with the program is closed. If you are monitoring your memory, it may show as still used simply because linux does not wipe it. As soon as memory is needed it will use the memory just as it would fresh "wiped" memory.

Trust me, I use graphic files 200MB and larger regularly. Linux always gets my memory back!

Thanks Phil.I have another question how to make my tuxracer game work properly, it stops and moves then stops again then moves. What is the reason? I have 384mb of memory and 600mb of swap.Is it my swap too big that cause the problem? Thanks again.

Omar, I can't help you much with this. I don't do much with games, or openGL. (I believe tuxracer is openGL) From what I do know, I don't think the swap file should be causing problems. If you are curious you could run a monitor program such as Gkrellm and see how much memory you are using. I only have 192MB and rarely use half of it. If it were me I would start by looking at my graphics card and its support in Mesa or whatever openGL driver you are using.

Sorry I can't help more. I just don't have much experiance with this.

Phil
