I am having an issue with my recent reinstallation of Mandrake 10 (Community). When I increase the screen size to over 800x600 (like to 1024x768), one of two situations occur.
1.) The visible portion of the screen is only the topmost left corner. As if you were to take a sheet of paper, cut a quarter of it away, and hold that over your screen. You can still click on things (like the kicker panel and the star menu), you just can't see it (well, all of it).
2.) Even stranger, sometimes the screen will wrap over itself. When the mouse gets to the right end of the screen and you keep going, it appears on the left side for ~ 300 pixels. I.e. it is drawing the screen in 800x600, it is just making up for the portion it cannot display by recycling itself.
More HW stats:
* Monitor - KDS Visual Sensations VS-190
* Graphics Card - Hercules terminator 4000x (Kyro chipset).
* Asus K7M MB / Athlon 700- Display Manager - MDKDM (tried KDE and X11, but they are even worse (!)).
- XFree86 4.3!!!NOTE!!! This is a reinstall, I have had this configuration / HW / etc, working w/o issue up to 1280x1024.

It just occured to me that you might want to see these files while the issue is present. I have gone through the Mandrake config tools and set the resolution to 1024x768 in 2 places (Hardware > Screen Resolution, and Hardeware>Hardware). It still looks as if it is 800x600 (without the issues described above (a new issue now?) Here are the files requested under this behavior:

OK....I'm guessing that you are using XF86Config-4. You can double check by examining /var/log/XFree86.0.log and there should be a line towards the top along the lines of:
