Maxtor Ultra 100 Controller, cannot find hard drive attached to it.

I'm trying to install Redhat Linux 7 on a Maxtor 45G hard drive connected to Maxtor's PCI Ultra 100 IDE Controller. The installer comes back with the error that no devices could be found on which to install Redhat on to.
I haven't found a simple way to fix this, has anyone else? I'm sure someone out there is also using the controller. BTW it is made by Promise Tech.

I have had problems with red hat and large hard drives. I suspect that it is the hard drive and not the controller that is giving you the problem. There is no driver support(that I know of) in the 2.2.x kernel for ultra ata 100. i did look at the promise site once before ( i used their ultra for an install) and thought i saw a driver for red hat. If you can get around the HD you should be fine. Next time think SuSE.

I downloaded and burned the image of suse preview edition(or something to that effect).
I don't use it, because it is live( it just runs off the CD-ROM and doesn't install.) I don't like that whole bootable OS crap.
Bottom line is -- It detected my Maxtor 30GB HDD through my Maxtor Ultra ATA/100 PCI adapter card.
It's the only distro I've seen do that -- I don't think that it is kernel related. I think that it's due to SUSE's killer HDD utility. It makes striping and everything pretty straightforward.
My advice is to check out the VERY latest version of SUSE.
