I have been trying to install Fedora Core 2 on my 160GB hard drive, which is hooked up to maxtor SATA/150 PCI card. This hard drive is fat32 although I have my primary hard drive (NTFS) with windows xp pro installed in it.

Windows xp has no problem detecting the drive and the card, but fedora installation doesnt recognize it. hda shows up but it doesnt show anything like hdb.

I purposefully bought maxtor sata 150 PCI card thinking that it would be a very good choice in terms of speed. I knew this pci card is relatively new in the market as compared to ultra ATA, but I am sure many have used it. Is anyone successful in using it? If so, how?

I found the following sites, but the details went quite over my head:

1. http://linuxmafia.com/faq/Hardware/sata.html
2. http://www.linux-tutorial.info/cgi-bin/display.pl?328&0&0&0&3
3. http://www.nber.org/sys-admin/maxtor-160.html

I am dying to install fedora. Please help me!!

Thanks

The installation probably runs on an old version of Linux (kernel) with no SATA support. Once installed though, you'll be able to use your card with no problem, since Fedora Core 2 comes with Linux version 2.6*. a simple solution is to install the system on a regular IDE drive, then attach the SATA drive and migrate everything to that while you're running the new kernel.

Otherwise check out some other distro which includes SATA support during installation.

There are 10 kinds of people, those who count in binary and those who don't.
