Hi,
I've just installed MandrakeLinux v10.0 from downloaded and burnt ISO files. I'm a Linux Newbie, but know a bit about computers in general. Just want to get away from windows!
Everything worked fine and it dual boots with XP Pro fine. BUT everytime i load linux it starts playing a very annoying buzzing sound about 3/4 the way through the loading sequence and it's a bit annoying.
I don't recall anything in the installation about setting up the sound cards: is it there in which case can i update it??
I have a C-Media AC97 Sound Card which works fine with windows still.
Is this a common problem??
I think it must be detecting some sound card as on GNOME i could turn the volume of the buzz up and down with the vol. slider thingy. It's definitely NOT the computer "bell" though as it's coming through my monitor speakers and i can turn it down there.
Thanks,
EJ

Got some more info:
when it's loading up and shuting down it keeps saying
"Disabling IRQ #18"
but never says's [OK] next to it: is thata sound related problem??also ran the following suggested on troubleshooting at install time:
"grep sound-slot /etc/modules.conf"
and it gave "alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0""sbin/chkconfig --list sound"
and "sbin/chkconfig --list also"
both gave
"0:off 1:off 2:on 3:on 4:on 5:on 6:off"but other that that i don't know anymore!
