Hi, I'm using Windows XP as the host OS and use MS Virtual PC 2004 to install Mandrake Linux 9.1 as a guest OS. I have installed Linux successfully but the problem is whenever i command "startx", there is an error " Cannot open display". Hence, it cannot start X window. Anybody knows the reason why, please advise. Thank you.

What else does it say apart from "Cannot open display"? Check through your /var/log/XFree86.0.log for any errors. It sounds as though your X config is not set correctly. See if you can do it again with XFdrake. I don't knoww about virtual PC but for vmwware you need to install the graphics card as a special vmware svga one instead of your usual card.
