Hi hope someone could help!!
I installed Linux Mandrake 9.1 on the week with suprising sucess, everything works except my graphics cards!!
My cards are both old Cirrus Logic CL-GD5440, I have versions 3.1.1 and 4.x Xfree86 and according to Xfree86 my cards are compatible!!
My problem is i can only get 16 colors, and some of the GNOME environment is unreadable, black criss-cross lines in text and option areas, I have a HP Pavillion 15" monitor and a 15" dell monitor I have tried changing the setting on Xfree86 but to know avail.
Can anyone give me any ideas on how to progress??
Anything would be great im a complete newbie in Linux!!

Your card only has 1Mb or video RAM. Lower the resolution. The equation relating video RAM to resolution and color depth that MUST be true is:

(video RAM in Mb) >= [ (horizontal pixels)x(vertical pixels)x(bits per pixel)/(8 bits per byte) ] / (2^20 bytes per Mb)

I think your best option is 800x600 at 16 bit color.
