How do I create a "My Computer" icon on my desk top and add my HD, Cd, and FD to it and how can I add a find files and directories applet to my main menue?

your /mnt directory should contain all those drives. So just make a shortcut to /mnt and call it whatever you want.

What Desktop Environment are you using? If its Kde, I believe you can right click on it and choose "edit menu" or something to that effect. In GNOME, you must go to "Start Here".
