hi,
I'm having trouble with mandrake 9.2. in the install, it showed a screen shot of some windows configuring a dhcp server, mail server, ftp server and some other things. it looked really easy. now that I've installed, how do I get to those configuration screens?? I've looked in configure my computer, and set my security level to higher, but I just figure out how to configure it! was setup misleading, or am I just stupid? (probably the second)

In your menu, look for Mandrake Control Center. This program allows you to configure all kinds of things in a nice user interface.
I think what you're looking for is in there.

Or try entering "mcc" (rather than looking through the menus) from a shell prompt (terminal). Good luck.

Did you actually install those servers when you did your installation? You would have had to select them.
Not to worry though. Now that you have the mandrake control center up, you can go to add/remove programs and install them.

ok, i did that rpmdrake thing, and checked everything possible under servers... what could I be doing wrong ??? *sigh*
Maybe i need a reinstall...

Hang on....
Maybe I got it wrong about where the setup for DHCP etc. is. I'm sitting in front of a Win2k workstation and pulling this from memory. If you just can't find the tool in Mandrake, you can download and install webmin from webmin.org.
Once it's installed, open your browser and go to http://localhost:10000.
Log in as root and you'll have all kinds of nice controls, including DHCP, Apache, ftp, etc. This is what I use anyway, because while each distribution has a different way of doing admin tasks, Webmin works the same on all of them. In fact, I like it better.

ok, think I tried that (localhost:10000), but it said something about how the executable was missing (i.e. "/usr/sbin/dhcpd missing"), and I couldn't do anything.
Grr...my installation is ALL messed up, I cant use konqueror, i'm going to reinstall...but don't go away :(

I believe what you are looking for is called drakwizard. If you haven't already reinstalled , just open mcc and go to the software management > the add software utility and do a search for drakwizard and install. This gives you the easy setup utils for the servers Bind, Apache, Time, News, Samba etc. Also, I don't think you can install this package during and install. Atleast I don't remember ever seeing it.
I hope this helps!
