Hi,

Before all you Linux geeks reply , please keep in mind I'm not a Linux expert, I'm pretty new to it, so I don't know a lot...:(

I recently installed Mandrake 9.2 on my Gateway 450ROG laptop (1.3 GHz Intel Centrino/Pentium-M, 256 MB 2100 DDR RAM). I love it so far.

I only have two problems with it, but they're pretty annoying:
(1) Whenever I unplug/plug in to the AC adapter, close the lid, or use the FN (function) keys, even on the boot selection screen, it freezes up. I mean, REALLY freezes up - can't do CTRL+ALT+DEL, power down with the button...it TOTALLY freezes up. I have to take out the battery to turn it off. This is a really annoying problem.
(2) This isn't too significant, but when I've been running the laptop for a while (~ 30 min +) the underside gets pretty hot. Much hotter than when I'm in XP Professional. Does Mandrake not have Pentium-M/Centrino driver or something?

Thanks for your help!!

Keith

Tip:

When you want help from someone, don't start off by insulting them.

Dude, you are obviously lacking in basic people skills. I suggest you start learning a job skill that requires no human contact of any kind.

Maybe you should have thought through that tip yourself before you replied...

its okay. I just thought it sounded kinda judgemental, or "labeling" if you will.

I think overreacted.

Peace.

It seems that none of the drivers for the power control features of your computer are loaded. You've probably figured out already that the reason it's so much hotter is that the CPU is being used at 100% speed rather than throttling down as it should.

The first problem you spoke of, the locking up, appears to be the same problem. You should check out the hardware compatibility list on the Mandrake website and see if your hardware is there.

Well, what can I say.
I have the same problem ...

My computer is a IBM thinkpad R40 2722 (it has pretty much the same settings as yours)

The point of my message is to tell you you're not alone. And we'll keep searching till the end ;)

I got it (at least for my computer), and the solution commes with the update of the kernel.

I have installed 2.4.22-21 but I've read it also work with 2.4.22-18. Don't forget to put the noapic option at the boot.
