i saw an old thread about this but it wouldn't let me respond to it and there was no resolution, so...
i downloaded the ISO's for Mandrake 9 and checksummed them. so far so good. when i tried to upgrade from 8.2, on the 2nd disk it started having all sorts of problems telling me a bunch of packages weren't able to install and asking if i wanted to continue. i said "yes" and it continued to tell me about package after package that failed until it finally gave up and left me with a machine that wouldn't boot. upon trying to INSTALL (not upgrade) 9, it did the same thing. so i installed 8.2 again.
i burned the 3 cd's 3 different times (9 disks!!) to try and rule out a media problem (burned disks as images, not data). anybody else have a problem with the MK 9 ISO's? any suggestions? i'm too cheap to buy them.
thanks.

Hi, I spent months downloading CD1 of Mandrake from FTP on 56K! (well obviously it didnt take months, i just kept the download going when i could be bothered!) My first install was on Virtual PC on Win98, and i got it installed fine, so i burnt it to a CD (as an image) but the CD wont read in any of my PCs - *then* i checked the ISO checksum of the file i downloaded and it was bad. I did eventually get the CD going in one of the PCs and the same problem as you described happened - i got package error after package error, and i just gave up the install. So maybe the CDs need to be of a different type, im not sure whether my ISO was bad (and going by the checksum, it was, but then why did it install on VPC) or the CD.
Good luck,
Alex

But this seems to be a download-problem. My downloades mandrake 9 iso's are all o.k.
Instead of downloading with a 56 K modem you probably should consider investing 26 € for buying the pack. It's worth it, and Mandrake really needs the money at the moment.

ISO's did me the same way. And I don't even have a cd-burner. But I'll get me one some day. I found a web site where this guy gave instructions on how to do a hard drive install, because hey had problems burning the cd's also. I did as he instructed and it worked the first time. I did not realalize mandrake 9.0 had all that stuff on it. e-mail him and ask for website or instuctions. araul@slonet.org
or e-mail me and i'll walk you through it
