I just finished doing an upgrade to Mandrake 8.2 on AMD Duron processor w/ 256mb and 40Gb WDC HD, which is running as a network and intranet server (Samba, Oracle 8 DB, MySql).
I've installed and run with RH 5.0 thru 7.2, know AIX and installed and run Mandrake 8.0 and 8.1 but I'm not a super expert. Searched web for "Mandrake 8.2 update problem", and found no hits that match my problems
I have the following problems post install
1) lost all groups associated with network users that I had created under 8.1. Used command groupadd -g to get them back.
2) had to re-enter all smbpasswd's to connect to samba
3) cannot find DNS at ISP (attglobal.net) even though I can connect, ping their remote IP and they claim that my setup is correct. resolv.conf looks funny to me. No matter what I do I cannot seem to get by this one
4) cannot find part of oracle executables even though correct information is in $PATH statements in both root and oracle .bash_profile. however when I do echo $PATH or do command 'env' there is seems to be some extraneous information eg /usr/games and I didn't install or upgrade games
5) there are stubs in lilo pointing pack to "old" os which are invalid
Has anyone any clues as to what happened.
What are possible courses of action.
Start over with fresh install.
or manually fix some files in /etc with one of the drake toolsAny thoughts or help would be appreciated
