Mandrake 8.2 and kernel compiling

I can't compile new kernel in Mandrake 8.2. :
1) make menuconfig, make dep, make clean, make bzImage
without errors.
2) make modules... errors
I've heard it's impossible to compile the kernel included in
Mandrake and i have to to download and compile an
original one from kernel.org. Is it true?
