Mandrake 8.0 Sound Problem

I upgraded from Mandrake 7.2 to 8.0 over the weekend and now I'm having some problems with the sound server in kde. It works ok for applications like xmms, etc., but doesn't work for system sounds like kde start-up, kde shut-down, window-close, etc. If I go into the kde sound control application and force a restart by making it think that I changed something, it seems to work fine until the next reboot. Any ideas? The system is an IBM Aptiva with an AMD K6 166 processor.
similar thing with mine. mine works fine with everything but xmms...it will play minute or so then stop...i think it's IRQ related but still looking into it. this is under 7.2 and i'm going to 8.0 next week...update then.
I have had the same problem with an ESS solo-1 card.
I saw quite a lot of troubles related to sound and 8.0 on the mandrake forum. One suggested the get new alsa libs, driver & alsaconf and reinstalled then it worked.
Installation of mandrake 8.0 went perfect for me and I haven't had any problems with sound. I have a Sound Blaster Live! X-Gamer 5.0 sound card. Anyway I think the new version of Mandrake kicks ass!
