It seems like the ISO is missing files, I can't install it from Windows, nor can I install it from MS-DOS, and the boot disk tells me there's an exec error. Don't tell me I wasted yet another CD on Linux.

did you get the source from the mandrake site?

http://www.mandrake.com

i just built 2 machines with mandrake 8.0 last night from an iso source off the mandrake site and it worked fine for me. you might try creating the boot disk off the source disk (if you didn't already try that - as opposed to downloading the boot disk)

hope this helps a little

I did not bother to waste time downloading an ISO image. I purchased Mandrake Linux 8.0 Powerpack Edition, as it comes with over 2,300 applications. Well worth the $69 US. If you want a bare bones manndrake 8.0, then get their 2 or 3 cd edition. It is only $30 US. Version 8.1 is in beta test right now.

Now that I have roadrunner cable isp set up in win98se with ethernet card, I am going to install mandrake and have the fun of configuring it for roadrunner. :)

To keep linux going and improving, these distribution companies need our support. The GNU GPL that comes with mandrake 8 says free = freedom, not free = no cost. I took the time to read the GPL, very carefully.

Good luck. :)
