losetup in 2.5, 2.6 kernels

I would like to help test the 2.6.0 test releases, but I have about 160Gb of encrypted data I can't access. The latest kernel finally has cryptoapi and cryptoloop support, but losetup isn't working for me.
With losetup from util-linux 2.11z, the algorithms I use aren't found because the reporting format in /proc changed. Help in the kernel configuration says I need losetup from util-linux 2.12. The most recent version I can find is 2.21pre, which I installed. When I try to set something up, it says the loopback device is invalid. I've tried /dev/loop0 and /dev/loop/0, but neither works.
Has anyone here been able to get cryptoloop working in either 2.6.0-test1 or recent versions of 2.5?
